Module 12 video review

Questions and Topics for Your Blog Posting:

  1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above. I chose Modernity and art and also Abstract art of the 50’s and 60’s  I chose these two because I wanted to see the relation between modern art and how the differences of art were of the 50’s and 60’s due to old school movies and cars like 50 and 60’s chevy classics and the Fonz era  thought this would be interesting.
  2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.  For Modern Art video they explained how the future of art is unpredictable.  One big key concept they said that abstract art is experimental and it is up to a person what they decipher.  Expressing ones vision is morally challenging and can be interpreted in many different aspects.  When now in our days digital imaging is used it brings a sort of fake ideal or image to life instead of referring to drawing and imagination of realism.

For abstract art of the 50 and 60’s this is where the use of colors put the imagination to work and creations were being pushed into art. On the spot gestures and imagination entwined and made a balance for artists.  Action and cartoon art was formed into abstract art just like the Campbell’s well known soup cans created by Warhols.  A household name put together to make art.  We see art every day in our kitchen we just take it for

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?  It confirms and supports how art has evolved from early centuries to now.  Starting back from the Roman empire till now evolvement has exceeded our expectations and our whole world is made of art.  Using colors broadens and expands the imagination to bring forth new images or even to combine images to make a unique abstract that is loved and wanted by many..  when combining unions of fluid shapes and solid shapes  when combined can show how easy it is to create art that is unrecognizable to what the true piece is to be.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?   The films help expand my mind to acknowledge art and how it can become alive.  Even though something is taken that can be of simple color or abstract it can be brought to life with imagination and colors to show the true meaning of what was meant through the artist.

Module 11 Video Review

1.    Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.  The first video I chose was the Impact of Cubism.  And the second was Matisse and Picasso.  Reason being for this is they both had something to contribute to Cubism as I read.

2.    For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.  Cubism was the most influential style of art in the 20th century where many objects that we surround ourselves with every day that represent form and space this  was used to bring together for us to understand where objects where brought together  If we saw objects before they were completed most would have no idea what it even represented.     With Matisse and Picasso they were like night and day.   They are both artists for the history books they seemed to be in competition with each other but yet amazed each other as time elapsed and learned from each other even though of their age difference.   The idea of things for a painting is what Picasso said.  He made the first collage

3.    How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

The reading and the video for cubism are one in the same and the information is pretty exact with relation and understanding of cubism.

Matisse and Picasso are both covering in the chapters but the video gave more vivid examples and explanations of their lives and how they interpreted the art world.

4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?

The short videos brought cubism to life as well as explained Matisse and Picasso to as if I knew details about how and why they painted.  They were in fierce competition in my opinion but at the same time and much respect for one another.

module 10 video and discussion

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.

I picked the Hinduism and the Buddhism videos due to I took an anthropology class a couple of semesters ago and the names are something I studied These are both heavy religions that are in our society today wanted to know what these cultures have to do with art

2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned. and relate to the text reading

For Buddhism film they said it feeds the ego, this is the basic meaning of love. They spoke of Tanha meaning desires of pleasure, possessions and positions. Little boat group build a boat to get to where they need to go and big boat would wait for the ferry to take them. they used wood techniques in stone in the parliament structure. Life truth and right living are acquainted with the three tiered umbrella that symbolizes the three tiers of heaven that Buddah himself defined as bliss

For the Hunduism is in a class of its own for religion. This is a religion that can take place anywhere they dont have to go to a church or structure to perform their beliefs or respect to God. Their is no founder or creator. It is exotic and the gods and goddesses are not defined as just one and their are many that they pay attribute too In the book their are very few pics of Hundism and Budism the art form may not be a spectacular as Catholics and cathedrals but they still do have them. Due to no temples or reference of place need be the architecture is till found in their areas living

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?

Even a religion has a specif form of art that is followed and loved by the people who believe in such. It was very interesting and informative

Module 9 sketch of hands

Step 4: Final Reflection and Posting

1. What was it like using your hand as subject matter for a drawing?  it was deff hard with all the lines and cemeteries to follow without being able to copy like when we were a child

2. What media did you select - pencil or charcoal? Why?  I used both actually the pencil to make the light lines and I used the charcoal to highlight the lines that were darker or thicker in each hand

3. How did it feel to create a drawing with your non-dominant hand?  This was very time consuming so not to make my hand look grotesque

4. Compare and contrast your final drawings. Do you think they are successful studies?
They do resemble my hand but for someone who has never drawn before ever in life I feel they were successful

5. Would you consider using your non-dominant hand to create artwork in the future?  it didn't make to much difference but trying to sketch with my non domination hand it did take at least 3 times as much time to create seeing as though I had to turn my paper at different angles to get the desired line to look decent

module 9 reading and understanding of video and reading

Questions and Topics for Your Blog Posting:

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.

The first video I picked was Velazquez reason being is I once knew a major named DI Velazquez and for the second video I picked Albrecht: Image of a Master wondering about what a master image was put together

2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

For Velazquez  he chose with no words and he served the palace in many ways  his routine nothing is known for his life   he captured moments with life and air because they are timeless  he chose myths to represent his work it was his muse due to wanting to give the appearance of substance making it life like as the myth not just as a typical painting

Image of a Master--Albrecht was very influential in Europe Gothic art was opened up from Italy--- Concepts of the process of aging  learning about time frames in art history.  His paintings can consist of many layers of paint in order to capture
weird to think something that people think of darkness (Gothic) came from such a beautiful country of Love and Pasta, Italy  brought to life and  appeal of open fields in landscape was a background to his paintings he captured the mood of the surroundings  must do this in order to show what it is that captured you

3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

Learning about the artists helps to understand the time frame of art. All of the details from the videos bring meaning or life to the actual reading from the book.  With bringing myths to life they are forever.

4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?  with all the videos we have been watching it brings meaning and life to artists and how they see life in order to bring out the realness of their work.  The videos bring easier understanding of the readings

Module 8

Questions and Topics for Your Blog Posting:
1. Explain why you selected the video you choose from the selection listed above.
I chose The Measure of All Things: Greek Art and the Human Figure  because in the title it had the word Human so I figured it coincided with the More Human than Human video

2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

For the More Human than Human video never thought of the no one picture that dominates is the human body we look at this the most anywhere in magazines on television and the art world this is what we see the most of we have been obsessed --some are breath taking

one thing they all have in common what ever the use and where ever they appear what they all share is they dont look exactly like the human body sizes perfection materials--

for The measure of all Things: Greek Art and Human Figure
sine 3000 BC they were also obsessed with the  body.
Greek culture when artist began to use realistic sculpting in the way we see ourselves and our world. The obsession with human condition helped convey emotion through sculptures.

3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?  In chapter 14 they speak of the statue of Willendorf  this was made looking grotesque but still representing a woman for the main parts of breasts and stomach.  It states in the book that art from the past states this is not the best art that was made.  All though this art is very important for it started a trend that grew in beauty and detail over the centuries.  within the video The Measure of all things sculptures started a revolution by realism  in the Head of Akkadian you can see realism of facial structure with mix of animal body but it has the 3D visual that was spoke about in the film also.  For the pic 14.24 Warrior you can see the detail of the mans torso with visions of his natural breasts belly button all they way to the individual toes within the feet.

4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
as my opinion in all the films it brings light to understanding of old and new art and how over the centuries perfection has evolved into works of exceptional paintings and sculptures.  Not only has it added depth to art but also to our architectural meanings with building.  As in chapter 15  15.18 and 15.19 these cathedrals are per say a sight for sore eyes.  detailed works of art that still stand tall today that are monuments for thousands of tourist to see and appreciate.
